Attendance

Regular school attendance is essential for every child’s learning, wellbeing, and long-term achievement. We place a strong focus on ensuring that all pupils attend school regularly and arrive on time, and our school follows this guidance closely to support the best outcomes for every child.

Our Current School Attendance

Why Attendance Matters

Good attendance:

  • Helps children make consistent academic progress

  • Supports social development and friendships

  • Builds confidence and resilience

  • Establishes strong routines for future education and work

Evidence shows that even a few days of missed learning can have an impact on a child’s progress. Our aim is to work in partnership with all families to promote excellent attendance wherever possible.

Expectations

We expect:

  • All children of compulsory school age to attend school regularly.

  • Parents and carers to ensure their child attends every day unless an absence is unavoidable.

  • Term-time holidays to be avoided

How Our School Supports Attendance

As a single-form-entry primary school, we know our families well and can offer personalised support. We:

  • Monitor attendance daily

  • Contact parents promptly if a pupil is absent without explanation

  • Offer help with barriers to attendance

Authorised and Unauthorised Absence

Absence may be authorised for:

  • Illness

  • Medical or dental appointments that cannot be arranged outside school hours

  • Specific exceptional circumstances (as agreed by the Headteacher)

Absence is considered unauthorised when:

  • No valid reason is provided

  • A family takes a holiday during term time without permission

  • The explanation does not meet the criteria for authorised absence

  • A child arrives at school after the registration period has closed

We understand that children get ill and knowing whether to keep your child at home can be conflicting. The NHS have provided some great advice here for parents and carers: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/

Working Together

We appreciate that challenges sometimes arise, and we are here to help. If you are experiencing difficulties that may affect your child’s attendance, please contact the school as early as possible so we can work together to find a solution.

Our Shared Goal

By supporting each other, we aim for all children to enjoy consistent, happy, high-quality learning experiences every day. Thank you for helping us give your child the strongest possible start in their education.
