At St Michael’s, we are committed to creating an environment where all children, irrespective of background or talent, experience the joy of high quality music making, both as individuals and in community with one another. Starting from their own musical experiences, we focus on developing the skills, knowledge and understanding that children need to become more confident and competent as performers, composers, and listeners.

Our curriculum introduces children to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching them to respect and appreciate the music of all traditions and communities. It is infused with courage as we encourage students to step outside their comfort zones, explore diverse genres, and express themselves authentically. We celebrate each child’s unique talents, providing those with specific musical interests and abilities tailored opportunities to develop these, and encouraging all to persevere with their musical learning. Through this holistic approach, we aim to instil a love of music while fostering the school values of respect, courage, and perseverance that will accompany our children on their lifelong journey of learning and self-discovery.
